Review a return

Work through the warnings banner in the review window, then choose Mark as reviewed.

Reviewing a return means looking at what we read from it, starting with anything that needs a look. When it looks right, you mark it as reviewed so your team knows.

Steps

  1. Open the project and choose Review on a return's card.

  2. At the top, the warnings banner counts what needs a look, such as 2 checks don't tie or 1 value no check confirms. Choose Show all to list each one.

The warnings banner opened with Show all.

  3. Choose Review to open the first item in the review window. The page of the return it was read from shows beside its details.

  4. Use Previous and Next to step through every item in the banner's order.

  5. For a check, you see its amounts and how it adds up. For a value, you see its Amount, what it's Checked by, where it's Used in the financials, and its History.

The review window, with the return's page on the left and the value's Amount, Checked by, Used in and History on the right.

  6. To look at anything else, choose any amount on the return page, or View PDF to see the return's pages.

  7. When the return looks right, choose Mark as reviewed. It then shows who marked it and when, such as Reviewed by Jane Doe · Oct 18, 2026.

Good to know

  • Mark as reviewed changes no numbers. The exported workbook doesn't say which returns were reviewed, and reviewing isn't needed to export.
  • To take the mark back, choose Undo.
  • The project page counts the returns marked reviewed, and each one's card shows "Reviewed".
  • Mark as reviewed shows once the return is ready.
  • A return with nothing to look at says "No warnings" instead of the banner.
  • Schedule L lines that don't match last year's aren't listed here, since they compare two returns. They're the project's: "Doesn't carry over" in the project page's warnings banner, whose Review shows both years' pages.
  • Anyone at your firm can review a return. If your firm's access has ended, you can still open the review window, but Correct, Accept as printed and Mark as reviewed aren't shown.
  • If a value is wrong, you can correct it from the review window with Correct. See Check the financials.

If something goes wrong

  • "We couldn't save that. Try again." The mark wasn't saved. Choose Mark as reviewed again.
  • "This return isn't ready yet." Wait until the return's card shows Review.
  • "Couldn't show this page" Choose Download PDF to open the return on your computer instead.

Next, check the financials.
