Invite people to your firm

Invite a colleague by email; they join by signing in with that address within 7 days, and you can revoke an invitation any time before.

Who can do this: admins

Invite colleagues by email so they can work on your firm's projects. Each person joins with the address you invited.

Steps

  1. Open the menu with your name in the top bar and choose Settings. As an admin, you start on Members.

  2. Under Invite someone, type their work email.

The Invite someone form, with the email field, the Role choice set to Member, and Send invitation.

  3. Choose a Role: Member or Admin. Invitations start as Member.

  4. Choose Send invitation. You'll see "Invitation sent to" and their address.

  5. The invitation shows under Pending invitations, with the day it expires, until they join.

They get an email with a button to join your firm. The link opens a page with their Invited email filled in. They choose a password, or sign in with Google or Microsoft using the account for that address. Once they're signed in with the invited address, they set up their authenticator if your firm requires one. If they chose a password, or the name from Google or Microsoft can't be used, they then enter Your name on What should your firm call you?. Otherwise the name from that account is used. Then they're in your firm, and read the client-consent notice.

Good to know

  • Invitations expire after 7 days. Send a new one if it runs out.
  • To cancel an invitation, choose Revoke beside it under Pending invitations. The link stops working at once.
  • Only the invited address can join. Someone signed in with a different address is asked to sign out and continue with the invited one.
  • A person belongs to one firm. If they're already in another firm, they see "You're already in a firm" and have to leave that firm before they can join yours.
  • During the beta, your firm has no limit on how many people it can have. People on Members shows how many are in your firm.
  • Only admins can invite people or see pending invitations.

If something goes wrong

  • "That address already has a pending invitation." They were invited already. Ask them to check their email, or revoke the old invitation and send a new one.
  • "Invitation saved, but the email didn't send. Revoke and try again." The invitation exists but they didn't get the email. Revoke it, then send it again.
  • "Too many invitations. Try again later." Too many invitations went out from your firm, or to this address, in a short time. Revoking doesn't reset this. Wait and try again.
  • "This invitation is no longer valid" The person you invited sees this when the invitation expired or was revoked. Send them a new one.
