If you lose your authenticator

Use your backup authenticator, ask another admin to reset it, or contact us if you're the only admin.

Your authenticator app gives the 6-digit code you enter when you sign in. If you lose the phone or the app, here's how to get back into your account.

Steps

  1. If you added a backup, use it. On the code page, enter the current code from your backup device or password manager and choose Verify. Any authenticator on your account works.

Enter your authenticator code, with the 6-digit code field, Verify, and Lost your authenticator? opened.

  2. No backup? Ask an admin at your firm. They open Settings, then Members, choose Reset MFA beside your name, and choose Reset MFA again to confirm. This removes your authenticators and signs you out. We email you when it's done.

  3. Sign in again the usual way, then set up your authenticator again.

  4. If you're the only admin, contact us at hello@sidesheet.co. We reset it for you, and you set it up again after signing in.

Good to know

  • Admins can't reset their own authenticator, so an admin who loses theirs needs another admin, or us if there isn't one.
  • Members can't reset anyone's authenticator. Ask an admin.
  • The admin who resets it needs their own authenticator on. If no other admin has one, contact us.
  • Signed in with your backup? The lost one is still on your account. Ask an admin to reset your authenticators, then set them up again.
  • Add a backup before you need one. Open Settings, then Account and security, and choose Add a backup authenticator. A second device or a password manager both work.
  • For how sign-in is protected, see Security.
