Set up your authenticator

Scan the code with an authenticator app, then add a backup so a lost phone can't lock you out.

An authenticator app on your phone gives you a 6-digit code each time you sign in, so a stolen password alone can't open your firm's work. You set it up right after you create your firm.

Steps

  1. Install an authenticator app on your phone if you don't have one.

  2. On Set up your authenticator app, scan the QR code with the app. Can't scan it? Type the key shown beside the code into the app instead.

The Set up your authenticator app page, with the QR code, the key to type in instead, the 6-digit code field and Turn on two-factor authentication.

  3. Type the 6-digit code the app shows and choose Turn on two-factor authentication.

  4. You'll see "Your authenticator app is on." and Add a backup authenticator?

  5. Choose Add a backup authenticator, then scan the new code with a second device or a password manager.

  6. Enter the code it shows and choose Add backup authenticator.

From now on, you enter a code from either app each time you sign in.

Good to know

  • Add the backup. If you lose your only authenticator, another admin at your firm has to reset it.
  • You can skip the backup with Skip for now and add one later under Settings › Account and security.
  • Whether you can skip the authenticator itself depends on your firm's setting. If your firm makes it optional, you'll see Skip for now on this step too.

If something goes wrong

  • "That code didn't work. Check your authenticator app and try again." Enter the code the app shows now and try again.
  • "Could not start setup. Try again." Choose Try again to get a new QR code.
  • "Enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app." The code must be all six digits.

Next, create a project and add returns.
